DIY: Grain Sack Pillow

I was so stoked when I found an old European grain sack at the Christie Antique Market a few weeks ago. I new instantly that I wanted to make a pillow out of it, but since I like to avoid hand sewing and zippers, I needed to figure out another way to make a pillow. I decided to make a pillow case using an envelope fold and it was surprisingly very easy. You can find all the instructions over on my Handmade with Style blog on Sweetspot.

Recent Project: Summer Backyard Wedding

I've been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the pictures from the wedding I planned which took place on August 20th. One of my best friend's mom married her soul mate and asked me to plan their wedding back in March of this year. Since I've never been married and haven't had any experience planning a wedding, I was a bit nervous (especially planning one in less than 6 months), but I was mostly just excited.

The wedding took place in their Toronto home's backyard with 45 of their closest friends and family. I loved putting all the details together - the signs, handmade details and special touches. It definitely was more work than I ever could imagine but it was well worth it.

Current Project: Baby's Room

For those of you who don't already know the fabulous Alyssa Kerbel, owner of mini mioche, is pregnant and due in just a week. She is having a baby boy and I cannot wait to meet the lil' guy! She gave me the honour of designing the baby's room and I'm pretty stoked. We're a bit late in the game here, but not to worry I'm on it!

Alyssa and her husband are cool and laid back, so I wanted to give the baby's room the same sort of vibe. Her daughter Emerson will be 4 years old in just a few weeks (seriously cutest kid ever!) and we will be using Emerson's baby furniture for the new room. The crib, change table and large wardrobe are all white with a modern clean look.

I wanted to create a space that the new baby boy can grow into. I thought I would tie in some rustic wood pieces since her husband is an avid collector of old wood crates. I've had my eye on that Graham and Brown frame wallpaper for quite some time now and I think a baby/child's room is the perfect space to use it in. I'll also add a vintage light fixture along with some custom DIY art. Voila - my version of a baby's room!

Cool Shit: Bean Bag Boss

I was invited to test out the Bean Bag Boss chairs a few weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised how comfy they were. They are each 4.5' x 5' and filled with lightweight foam beams. You can put them in a variety of different position and they are actually quite sturdy when you sit in them. The Bean Bag Boss chairs are available in a ton of different colours and patterns - hello plaid, metallic and faux leather. I have my eye on that red checkered one!

Current Obsession: Suede Booties

I've always been a bit hesitant when it comes to suede shoes since I was never too sure how it would hold up during our wet winter months. For some reason this year I can't get enough of suede. Maybe it's the vast selection of super cute suede booties out there or perhaps its the 70's influence happening right now, but either way I love me some suede booties this fall!

Wish List: Heart Scarf

I'm not much of a hearts person, but for some reason I'm completely smitten with this scarf from Blush!

Crush: Skinny Taste

I came across Skinny Taste a few months ago and I felt like I had hit the recipe jackpot. Not only do all of the recipes on the blog sound and look amazing, they are all low fat. Gina is the author, recipe developer and photographer on Skinny Taste and started the blog in an attempt to stay healthy and to work on her photography skills.

All the recipes are categorized by an event and or/ meal/food type: sandwich, soup, crock pot, chicken, breakfast, cakes, superbowl etc. Also you can also find recipes based on the Weight Watchers point system which I find extremely helpful since this is the best non diet way to lose weight (in my opinion).

Check out some of these yummy babies!

{via Art Equals Happy}

This month I've been trying to focus more on myself while trying to create some sort of balance between everything. I've incorporated more fruits and veggies in my life along with more water, more sleep and more exercise. I've also been working on completing all of those nagging tasks that have been on my 'to do' list for months now. I've enjoyed spending nights to myself watching movies or reading a book. I've also mixed up a little friend time, a little family time and a little (or maybe a lot) of boyfriend time.

I've learned if you don't put yourself first than you're not really being kind to yourself and will not be much help to others.
