Steve and I made the most delicious pizza recently and I must say there is nothing low fat about this one! But how can you resist bread, cheese and bacon all in one?! You can use either freshly made pizza dough as we did with the
BBQ Pizza or you can use frozen pizza dough that has been thawed out.
White Sauce:
2 cups milk
2 tbsp olive oil
4 cloves of minced garlic
2 tbsp of cornstarch
2 tbsp freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 tbsp white wine
salt and pepper to taste
Toppings:
2 cups of mozzarella
8 strips of bacon chopped
1 cup mushroom slices
1. To make the sauce, saute garlic in olive oil until soft. Mix in cornstarch, salt and pepper. Slowly add milk, wine and Parmesan cheese. Bring to a boil and stir frequently until sauce thickens - approximately 2 minutes. Set aside.
2. Roll out your dough and place on an oiled baking sheet. Spread the sauce over the dough (you may not want to use it all - depends on how creamy you want your pizza) and sprinkle half of the mozzarella. Top with bacon and mushrooms and then with the remaining cheese.
3. Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes or until crust is golden.
