Recipe: Grilled Peaches

I love using fresh fruit in the summer to make fun desserts and salads with. I've been wanting to grill up some peaches for dessert, so I finally got around to doing it a couple of weekends ago. Here's a really simple, low fat and tasty grilled peach dessert:

4 peaches, halved and pitted
1 tub of low fat cream cheese
4 tbsp of honey
1/2 chopped pecans

1. Preheat BBQ to medium heat.
2. Mix together 2 tbsp of honey with cream cheese. Set aside.
2. Place each peach half pit side down on the grill. Grill for 4-6 minutes or until there are grill marks.
3. Turn peaches over, drizzle with remaining honey and then place a dollop of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each peach where the pit originally was. Grill for 3-4 for more minutes.
4. Remove from grill and sprinkle with pecans.

Wish List: Open Back Tee

I'm a huge suckers for 'basics with a twist', so this open back tee is right up my alley. It also comes in a khaki colour which means I'll take one of each colour thank you!

Pamela Love Fall 2010

I've always lusted after Pamela Love's pieces and her fall collection is no exception. These hand crafted pieces with all the detail and edginess are exactly what I want to be accessorizing my wardrobe with this fall!

Home Tour: Toronto Bachelor Pad

When I was flipping through the pages of the new Style at Home (September issue), I became smitten with this Toronto bachelor pad. With a modest budget, this retro inspired space mixed with a touch of modern was created using mostly vintage finds. I love when vintage pieces are mixed in with modern ones because it makes a space truly unique and much more personal. Enjoy!

Dolce Vita x Target

Dolce Vita has teamed up with Target to create a collection of faux leather shoes and boots which are due to hit stores August 22nd. I'm a huge fan of Dolce Vita shoes, but I'm not such a big fan of faux leather. I do really love all of these styles and the prices are unbelievable ($29.99-$34.99), but I'm a bit of a snob I guess when it comes to leather - I like the real deal! So the question is...to buy or not to buy??

Book Club: The Carrie Diaries

The Carrie Diaries was our 2nd book chosen for The Bold & Beautiful book club. Some of the girls in the club received their copy of the book too late and weren't able to finish it before our meeting last week. The overall consensus of the book was that it was cute, light and entertaining. It was definitely a fluffy book and geared towards teens, but overall we all enjoyed reading it. The book is based on Carrie Bradshaw's high school years growing up in a small town with big dreams of moving to the big apple (pre Sex and The City days). Some of the book club girls had a hard time believing it was the same Carrie we all know and love, but I totally saw that Carrie in this book. She was still that bold and quirky girl with the crazy fashion sense!

We decided to go on a field trip for our meeting next month (so book number 3 won't be until September). We got tickets to see the show Love Loss & What I Wore which has been getting rave reviews!

Hot Off The Press!

I couldn't be more thrilled with the progress Salvage Interiors has made so far, but it's been a crazy last few weeks! Here's a couple of features on Salvage Interiors (click on the image for the full feature):

Recipe: White Pizza with Bacon & Mushrooms

Steve and I made the most delicious pizza recently and I must say there is nothing low fat about this one! But how can you resist bread, cheese and bacon all in one?! You can use either freshly made pizza dough as we did with the BBQ Pizza or you can use frozen pizza dough that has been thawed out.

White Sauce:
2 cups milk
2 tbsp olive oil
4 cloves of minced garlic
2 tbsp of cornstarch
2 tbsp freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 tbsp white wine
salt and pepper to taste

Toppings:
2 cups of mozzarella
8 strips of bacon chopped
1 cup mushroom slices

1. To make the sauce, saute garlic in olive oil until soft. Mix in cornstarch, salt and pepper. Slowly add milk, wine and Parmesan cheese. Bring to a boil and stir frequently until sauce thickens - approximately 2 minutes. Set aside.

2. Roll out your dough and place on an oiled baking sheet. Spread the sauce over the dough (you may not want to use it all - depends on how creamy you want your pizza) and sprinkle half of the mozzarella. Top with bacon and mushrooms and then with the remaining cheese.

3. Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes or until crust is golden.

Spotlight: Fidelity Denim

Clean, refined and polished are some of the words Jason Trotzuk, designer of Canadian denim brand Fidelity, uses to describe his fall collection. Fidelity - known for it's superb fit and clean finishes - also takes a dip into some wild trends this fall which Trotzuk claims is the 'fun part'.

Fidelity's fall line features a leather looking denim with stretch called black slick. It's shown with delicate studs for a bit of a rocker vibe. The stretch twill cargo is another addition to the collection with a strong military influence. Clean dark washes in their classic boot cut and skinny styles are some of the fall season's staples for Fidelity.

When I spoke with Trotzuk earlier this week, he gave me a little hint of what we can expect to see from Fidelity's spring 2011 line - light colours in light weight denim in styles that are loose, relax and drapey. Sounds like heaven - I'm not sure I can wait until next spring for these styles, but in the meantime enjoy Fidelity's fall collection!

AllSaints Part 2

I spent a good chunk of time this past weekend browsing through the AllSaints online store and let me just say that it's filled with a crazy amount of goodies! The pieces are so incredibly unique and very well priced for the amount of detailed involved. And don't even get me started on the boots and shoes - pure heaven! Here are some of my top picks for dresses and footwear:

Boutique Spotlight: AllSaints

The UK brand AllSaints who is known for their edgy street style recently opened a 14,000 square foot store in New York's Soho - the first free standing location in North America. The brand features clothing and accessories for men, women and children. My boss just came back from New York and raved about this store. Everything she bought was from Allsaints - even some super cute dresses and combat boots for her 2 1/2 year old daughter!

I tracked down some images of the interior of the store and it looks incredible! The industrial details along with the 493 vintage Singer sewing machings and the ram skulls wall make me want to jump on a plane to NYC today. Seriously I need to go there ASAP.

Tomorrow I'll show you some of my favourite picks from their online store, but for now enjoy these juicy pictures!

Pick of The Week: Corset Laced Mannequins

A vintage mannequin has been on my wish list for quite some time now. The last time I went to my tailor I saw the most amazing vintage mannequin in the window display and immediately fell in love. My tailor told me he once he retires in a few years that the mannequin can be mine - I nearly died from excitment!

After viewing the images from Cheryl Crow's loft and seeing her amazing vintage mannequin, I started Googling some images of them. I came across Corset Laced Mannequins which is an incredible site featuring vintage mannequins along with new hand crafted versions. Lucy Curtis from Corset Laced Mannequins creates tailored mannequins in a variety of vintage textiles and materials which makes each mannequin one of a kind. So in addition to my vintage mannequin that I will be receiving in a few years (as mentioned above), I would love one of Lucy Curtis' creations as well!

Spotlight: Koralie

I started collecting Kidrobot's French serie Dunny's a couple of years ago in the hopes of scoring the one that was designed by French Artist Koralie. All the Dunny series are bought in blind boxes so you never know which one you're going to get which makes it incredibly addicting. I was determined to to have the one she designed because frankly it was so darn cute! This particular one was extremely limited and near impossible to get. Steve surprised me on my birthday that year with the Koralie Dunny and I couldn't had been happier!

Since then I've become a huge fan of Koralie's work and I would love to have one of her original prints one day. I love the Geisha influences and the feminine details in each piece.

Home Tour: Sheryl Crow's NYC Loft

When I first saw images from Sheryl Crow's NYC Loft last month in ELLE, I nearly fell off my chair! I mean I enjoy her music from time to time, but I had no idea that we would have such similar taste in design and decor. I have a tiny (well maybe it's more on the larger side) obsession with hard lofts - exposed brick, original floors and other raw elements. I love the eclectic feel to Sheryl's loft with the industrial pieces mixed with antique furniture and cool vintage finds. And hello to the most amazing bathroom ever!
