Happy Halloween!

I love Halloween, but I've been super swamped lately and haven't been able to get my butt in gear in time to find a costume (yet!) and organize a party (which was in the plans a few weeks ago but the time just flew by...there's always next year). Here are some inspirational Halloween party ideas to get you in the mood:

Have a great weekend and happy Halloween!!

Pick of the Week: Oversized Scrabble Pieces

On a recent house tour featured on Design*Sponge was a gorgeous house filled with personalized treasures. One of the first things I noticed was the framed over-sized scrabble piece (first picture). I thought this was such a unique idea and found these scrabble tiles by Craig Wood Works. They come in 2 sizes, 4 or 6 inches, and a portion of the sales will be donated to the flood victims in the Philippines. It's a win win situation-cool artwork while helping others!

DIY: Wine Racks

I'm always in search of easy and inexpensive DIY projects and this wine rack idea from ReadyMade is no exception!

What You'll Need

  • Cardboard mailing tubes (ours were 3 1/2" in diameter x 36")
  • Paint (optional)
  • Round color-coded stickers (optional)
  • Plenty of wine
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Hand saw
  • Sandpaper (200 grit)
  • Paintbrush (optional)

How to Make It

  1. Measure the space where you want to install the wine rack. If it’s a shelf, make sure it’s strong enough to support all those bottles. (We put ours on a bottom shelf to be safe.)
  2. Measure and mark your tubes in increments of 9" (just enough to cover most of a wine bottle).
  3. Cut the tubes along your marks with the hand saw, taking care to keep the cuts even. Sand off any cardboard fragments.
  4. If you want to paint the tubes, do it now. Make sure they dry completely before continuing.
  5. Stack your tubes.
  6. Gather your wine. OCD types may want to come up with their own systems of categorizing bottle caps with color-coded stickers (to parse out which vintages are for everyday drinking and which are special occasion Pinots).
  7. Raise a toast to your not-so-hard work.

Spotlight: Petworks

Brave Beltworks recently launched a collection of dog collars called Petworks and Nathan already has 3 of them! The leather collars are hand-made in Toronto and include amazing detailing such as studs, top stitching and options for personalizing. Nathan got the chance to debut his modeling career for Petwork's first collection! Click here to see the full line of collars.

Street Style Inspiration

I've been feeling a bit blah lately with my wardrobe selection. It's crazy because I have a massive closet and dresser filled to the brim with everything, but I can't seem to find anything to wear. I'm going to try to set some time aside this week to go through all my clothes and create some outfits so it makes it faster to get dressed each morning and I can leave the house satisfied with my look. But I think I need some street inspiration, so here are some of my favourite fall looks:

I need: A Butter Dish!

With all the buzz over the past few months regarding butter VS margarine, we're finally making the switch to butter...well as soon as I can find a cute butter dish. Who knew there would be so many options? Below are my favourite picks that are perfect for our kitchen. Which one do you like?!

Sorry for not posting my weekly/weekend scrapbook. It was a busy weekend with lots of family time, a real estate showing at my dream home (seriously...it was freaking amazing on the inside) and another trip to the antique market. We bought lots of goodies and I can't wait to share them all with you in the next few months. I hope you had a great weekend! xoxo

Pick of The Week: String Lights

When I saw these string lights by Patrick Townsend on Oh Joy last week, I fell in love! So naturally they are my pick of the week!

Drinks with the girls tonight, relaxing and errands tomorrow and back to the antique market on Sunday. Have a great weekend!

DIY: Faking Porcelain Pottery

I thought this DIY porcelain pottery from PS- I made this was great!!! Not only will it cost you next to nothing, but the pattern ideas for it are endless! I'm was really big into crafts as a kid (and still am), but for some reason 'puffy paint' doesn't ring a bell, so I Googled it and found a quick puffy paint recipe. I'm definitely planning to try this project in the future so I'll keep you posted!

This video is inspiring in so many ways! Enjoy! xo

Spotlight: Avoca

When Avoca was first introduced to me a couple months ago, I thought it was right up my alley! The kitschy line started in the 1700's manufacturing natural fibre rugs, throws & scarves. Avoca has grown significantly and now includes an entire line of housewares including linens, pottery, candles and cookbooks. They also have a gorgeous woman's collection called Avoca Anthology. With several Avoca stores in Ireland (and they have cafe's too), the collection will now be available in boutiques throughout Canada and the US. Think Anthropology meets Free People meets grandma's little teacups!

Upholstery Update

Twelve hours of work later (blood, sweat and tears) and I finally got the chair striped down! Phew who knew this upholstery class would be so much work. I'm excited to move on to the new phase in getting this chair looking good!

Current Obsession: Boots

As much as I LOVE shoes, there's just a smidge more love in my heart for boots! I love them all-booties, flat, wedges, heels, vintage, motorcycle, cowboy and good ol' Frye's! I thought it was only appropriate to display my beloved boot collection (minus the 5 pairs I just gave away and my favourite 2 pairs of shooties that I forgot to include). Now what's your fashion obsession?

Weekly Scrapbook

Photobucket
As promised, above are my pictures from last weekend. I had the girls over on Saturday night to celebrate the homecoming of one of my best friends who has been in Korea for the past year (hence the chopsticks which were a gift she picked up for me when she visited Japan). I made sure I had all her favourite things-candy, home baked goods, Steve's famous guacamole and of course wine! On Sunday, we went to my parent's house to celebrate Thanksgiving with my entire family and stuffed our faces with delicious food! And on Monday, I finally got a chance to relax a bit and catch up on some trash reality TV (my guilty pleasure).

This past weekend was a mixture of shopping (I finally got the leather biker jacket I've been hunting for), going to an antique market just outside of Toronto and trying to relax and get rid of this cold/flu (Nathan was enjoying the down time with me and kept hogging the blanket). Most of the pictures are from the antique market where we found some great treasures (which you will see in the next few months-secret project in the works) and where we found our little French bulldog friend (isn't he sooo cute..too bad he wasn't for sale)! Steve also got tattooed by his friend Mike who was in town for the weekend. The outcome was a crazy hoe skull that goes perfectly with the pimp skull Mike did for him last summer on his calf.

I hope you had a great weekend!

Have a Great Weekend!

I've been out of commission for the past couple of days with a terrible flu. I can't even remember the last time I've felt like this, but it had me thinking that we all have to start putting ourselves first. I've been running myself ragged and have been feeling like I've been on the verge of getting sick for weeks now. As soon as I finally got a chance to relax on Monday, the bug caught up with me. Please remember to make time for yourself!

I was planning on posting my 'Weekly Scrapbook' today, but being stuck in bed hasn't allowed me to take any pictures this week. I will try to post it on Monday!

Have a great weekend!

Pick of The Week: Wire Shelf

My pick of the week is this hand-made wire shelf from Anthropologie. Wouldn't this be great in the bathroom to store your towels?? At $180, I'm thinking a DIY version may be the better option-I'll keep you posted!

Recipe: Chocolate Chip Cookies

milk and cookies

These chocolate chip cookies that I made for my girls night came out perfect! They were ooohy chewy goodness! Click here for the recipe. I made a few changes to the original recipe: I skipped the walnuts, used 1 cup of milk chocolate chips and 1 cup of butterscotch chips and baked them at 300 degrees F for 11 minutes. Enjoy!

Fall Footwear Must Haves

I'm a shoeaholic at heart! I mean what girl isn't?? Here's some of the top footwear looks for fall....I'll take a pair of each please!

Pick of the Week: Made By Girl's Words Collection

When you just want to say......

Made By Girl's word card collection is my pick of the week! How great are these phrases?! There's definitely a card for everyone! Each card has been printed on 100% recycled acid-free paper and is blank on the inside. Click here to see more by Made By Girl.

I'm really looking forward to the long weekend. Happy Thanksgiving Canada (and whoever else may be celebrating)!!! Have a great weekend!

DIY: Photo Cubes

I'm an avid picture taker (I love having memories of everything!) and I have a ton of photos kicking around. I've been trying to figure out a way to display them that's cool and unique. When I saw the photo cube DIY from Kelly at Yes, Please, I knew this was my answer! She used IKEA metal planters for the cubes, attached them all in a row with some glue and placed the photos inside. What a great idea inexpensive idea!

Boutique Spotlight: Shared

I'm a huge sucker for super soft basics so when I found out there was going to be a whole store dedicated to my favourite basics collection, I was thrilled! Shared, a Toronto based/made line known for their organic basics in which 50% of all proceeds go to charity, opened it's first Canadian retail location on September 19th. It's a small space (only 350 sq ft), but designed with lots of impact! The 'Industrial Candianna' vibe throughout the store is evident from the gorgeous antiques, to the reclaimed wood walls, to the cool fixtures, to the decoupage cut-outs of old magazines on the floor. Even the hangers which were custom made are amazing!

Once I got over how cool the space looked, I focused on what I do best...shopping! I already own a few of Shared's boyfriend tees (an oversized scoop neck pocket tee), but I picked up a few more. After all you can never have too many basic tees and I needed some of the new fall colours (obviously). The fleece cardi and hoody are the perfect cozy pieces for our cold winters and the basic racer back tanks are great for layering. And don't worry boys because there's a great selection for you too. The graphic tee, henley and fleece raglan are must haves for every guy's wardrobe!
